Khalid served for a decade as a Syracuse City Councilor, holding the influential position of President Pro Tempore for four of those years.

During his tenure, he chaired the Committee for Economic Development, Downtown and Metropolitan Planning, and was a member of the Neighborhood Preservation, Finance, and Charter & Rules Committees. His legislative impact is significant, with over 40 sponsored pieces of legislation, including key memorializing legislation to the State and Congress designed to shape the future operations of Syracuse. Khalid’s civic engagement extends to his seven years on the Syracuse Regional Airport Authority, where he served for a year prior to his election to the City Council and for an additional six years while on the council. Before his time on the council, he was a Regional Coordinator for the NYS Senate Democratic Conference.

Beyond public service, Khalid is an accomplished entrepreneur, owning and operating an insurance brokerage and Beyarc Strategies, a public policy consulting firm. He is also the author of 12 published works. He furthered his education in Executive Management at Yale University School of Management and in Business Management and Economics at Empire State University.
